yes, it is effective in cleansing the body and spirit, when you fast, you are abstaining to hear from God, Daniel in the bible did that, and it is an incentive for your body to get rest!

Fasting can be good for your health when done in a very balanced way. It can give your liver time to rest which improves the feeling of clarity of attention but in itself is not actually a spiritual pursuit.
When the attention becomes clearer then you can go into meditation much more easily. That is when the spiritual growth occurs.

Muslims fast physically in different ways. First, there is the obvious food. And yes, it does cleanse out your body. Then, there is giving the passions a rest. Men and women do not check each other out at all during the month of Ramadan. This gives the *** drive a rest. It is very good for the mind. Your mind is not clouded by *** hormones or ridiculous ego driven fantasy, or jealousy.
Fasting is pure genious. Do a little more research on Ramadan.

I’m Catholic and we don’t fast it’s more of a Muslim custom. From what I’ve heard it is an effective tool for cleansing the body and spirit but this is ’spiritually speaking’. To be honest I don’t know much about it and I’d be happy to know what other people especially those who fast answer you.

Purity, which means: self-control, self-detachment, self-forgetting, self-abnegation, selflessness. Yes, fasting is the sun of guidance, and prayer is the moon.
